Corporate tax season isn’t the most exciting time of year, but it’s unavoidable. Every incorporated business in Canada has to pay corporate income tax, either in instalments or as a lump sum, to keep things in good standing with the tax authorities.
While the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Revenu Québec don’t accept credit cards directly for corporate tax payments, there is a way to still use your business credit card… and actually get something back for paying taxes.
In this blog, you’ll learn how to pay your corporate taxes with a credit card using Chexy, along with some other benefits of Chexy for small businesses.
Who Is Chexy For & What Taxes Can You Pay?
Chexy is built for any business, from healthcare professionals and advisors to restaurateurs and service providers. If you have taxes and other major expenses to pay, Chexy can help you save money, earn rewards, and keep your cash flow strong.
With Chexy, you can put just about any large business expense on your credit card, even if the recipient doesn’t accept cards directly. That includes corporate income tax and:
Payroll remittance
Payroll or source deductions
Excise duties or taxes
GST/HST remittance
Provincial sales taxes (PST)
Non-resident withholding tax
Luxury tax
Instead of paying the CRA or Revenu Québec directly from your bank account, Chexy charges your business credit card and sends the payment as a pre-authorized debit. This means you can:
Earn valuable rewards points or cashback
Keep cash in your account longer
Improve your business’s tax efficiency
Why Use Chexy to Pay Corporate Taxes?
Paying corporate taxes with Chexy comes with some serious advantages:
Earn credit card rewards & hit welcome bonuses: Earn up to 4% cash back or points you can turn into free flights or travel upgrades, while knocking out those otherwise hard-to-reach welcome bonuses.
Improve your cash flow: Get up to 55 days of interest-free float to use your money where your business needs it most.
Save on fees & boost tax efficiency: Chexy’s low 1.75% fee is tax-deductible, helping reduce your taxable income while still earning rewards.
Plus, business owners can earn up to 100,000 Aeroplan® points* by hitting certain spend thresholds within the first three months of payments with Chexy. Terms and conditions apply. See the bottom of this page.
How to Pay Corporate Taxes with a Credit Card Via Chexy
Chexy makes it possible to pay your corporate income tax, payroll remittances, GST/HST, and other business taxes to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) using your credit card — even though the CRA doesn’t accept cards directly.
Here’s exactly how to do it.
What You’ll Need Before You Start
The type(s) of tax you want to pay (corporate, payroll, GST/HST, etc.)
The amount for each payment (from your accountant or CRA online account)
Whether it’s a one-time or recurring payment
Your CRA online account login details
Step 1: Set Up Your Payment in Chexy
This step tells Chexy to charge your credit card and fund your Chexy Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) account.
1. Log into your Chexy dashboard and click New Payment.

2. Select Add a new payee → Business taxes & remittance → Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD)

Note: Bill Pay is not supported for CRA business tax payments.
Enter your payment amount.
Add a nickname for the payment (e.g., “ABC Co. Corporate Tax - 2025”).

Choose Monthly or One-time payment.
Monthly: pick a payment day each month.
One-time: your card is charged today, and funds will be ready in 2–3 business days.

Review the details and click Continue.
First-time users will need to verify business info, link Aeroplan (optional), and add a credit card.
Click Pay now (one-time) or Activate (monthly).
Go back to your dashboard, click on the payment, then PAD details.

Take a screenshot or download the void cheque showing your Chexy PAD account, transit, and institution numbers. You’ll need this for Step 2.

Step 2: Set Up or Update Your CRA PAD Agreement
This authorizes the CRA to pull funds from your Chexy PAD account.
If you already have a PAD agreement:
1. Log in to your CRA business account.
2. Go to Manage pre-authorized debit under “Business balance and services.”

3. Select your agreement from the list.

4. Edit the existing agreement (must be 6 business days before the payment date).

5. Make sure the "Next payment date" is on or after the "Funds available" date on Chexy, to ensure there are sufficient funds for them to withdraw.
6. Closer to the bottom, select Enter new banking information and update this with your Chexy account details from Step 1.

7. Review and submit. Repeat this process for each PAD agreement (e.g., payroll, corporate taxes). Note that your Chexy account details stay the same for every payment, but you must set up a separate Chexy payment for each tax you want to pay. This ensures there are sufficient funds in your wallet and helps avoid any issues with withdrawals.
If you need to create a new PAD agreement:
1. Follow steps 1-2 above.
2. Select Schedule payment(s), then pick the program account and payment allocation.

3. Enter the relevant details. For "How often?", select One time or Monthly (this should match what you selected in Chexy).

4. Pick the payment date. This is the date when the CRA will withdraw the funds from your Chexy account. Make sure it's the same as or after the "Funds available" date that Chexy provided.

5. Select Enter new banking information, and enter your Chexy PAD banking info from Step 1.

6. Review and submit.
Once withdrawn, the CRA typically records the payment in your account as "successful" within 1–2 business days.
Note: If you change the payment amount later, you must update it in both Chexy and your CRA account to keep everything in sync.
Notes about payroll remittances:
Payroll remittances are due by the 15th of each month
Do not schedule payroll taxes to pay after the 15th, as they may be misallocated as a late payment for this month instead of an early payment for next month
Based on this, we suggest selecting a payment date of 1st to 11th for payroll remittances

Things to Keep in Mind
Processing time: Plan ahead, as card payments via Chexy and PAD need 6 business days to reach the CRA. If you have a payment due sooner than this, you'll have to pay normally outside of Chexy this month.
Two payments for Quebec: If your business is in Quebec, remember you’ll need to pay both the CRA and Revenu Québec separately. Follow these instructions to pay Revenu Quebec with a 20-digit payment code.
Payment limits: The maximum amount you can send with PAD is $70,000 per payment. There are no daily, weekly, or monthly limits, and you can make multiple payments on the same day.
Business account: If you have a personal Chexy account and want to create a new one for your business, you’ll need to open a separate account using a different email address and credit card.
Alberta residents: We do not currently support corporate tax payments to the Government of Alberta.
Make Your Corporate Taxes Work for You
